I don't really care. It's too late for me. The people you should point fingers at are the teachers, the school board, and the state government. They are the one's who aren't doing their job. Plus I think there has been an increase in the number of slow kids or kids who don't care and don't try, mainly because their parents are like that and don't do nothing about it.
I think this is happening because we are lowering our standards.
Because of the efforts of the Secular-Progressives, we are trying to make everyone as equal as possible. We are not all created equally. The founding fathers did not mean their words in a literal sense. They were saying that no men (or women) should rule just because of their heritage. All people should have an equal chance at everything.
Genetics have proven that we are not all created equally. People have different strengths and weaknesses. The fact that we are slowing down the entire class for some students to catch up is unfair to those who understand the material.
The government trying to make everyone equal is ridiculous. Some people will say that they don't have an equal opportunity because of their upbringing. The government should help them because it's not fair.
Here's a scenario. Aaron is a lot stronger than me. Since we all need to be equal, the government should give me money to join a gym and to buy protein shakes. It's not fair that Aaron Is NATURALLY stronger than me.
Seems pretty ridiculous right?
This era of political correctness needs to end.
I agree with this article almost entirerly. If we do not have a full education then we will not as Americans be able to compete in the World Economy. I also think that the problem we are having is everyones crappy lazy attitude. This is what is going to kill Americans. To many people think that being lazy is ok. Well I don't think that its ok!
I agree that not all fingers should be pointed at the students. As Aaron said, the teachers, school boards and state governments are the ones who are in charge of preparing us students to become the best we can be. They have challenges themsevles though because some kids have no desire to go any where in life and without a diploma thats exactly what they're doing. Tax payers shouldnt have to pay for those who dont try. Our government could save money and put it to more useful things like better and more high tech equipment for our schools to give those who want to learn a more useful and learning enviroment.
i think that we should at least try to help those less fortunate. If we dont help them now we'll end up paying for their standard of living later on, it's called social security. that's why America is in so much debt. If we start helping the poor get better education they would be contributing to social security and paying higher taxes, therefore the government would have more money.
The only problem is that the students need to be properly prepared to go to college. If they believe they can't make it, then they won't try. We need to motivate the students and encourage them with the means to get through college life. I understand that we will still have those too lazy, or too sick to achieve a higher schooling, but we at least need to try.
First of all we are not created equal as Eric said. I think that kids are not putting as much as they should into work as they could. For example, this blog is extra credit. I believe that when you put "don't blog unless you have read the article" this threw a lot of students off. They don't care about their grades enough to take the time and blog. When you said read, that meant take 15 minutes out of your study hallwhich many kids do not use and they should because some schools don't or stop watching TV and go work on trying to get your grade up. I see this as a problem. Mr. Linders told us that he had a student (as I'm sure everyone has) that didn't care what their grade was as long as it was passing. I believe that many students are taking for granted what the govenment does for us. There are many countries that you quit going to scholl after the equilivent of an 8th grade education so you can start working, or that they HAVE to pay for their own education. If you can't take the time to blog, or do anything for extra credit, how are you going to do college work? If students applied themselves, we would see the overall grades come up. However I don't think that it is entirely our fault. There are some teachers that must have gotten their degree out of a Cracker Jack box. They don't care any more than the studnets do which is also a problem. Every class should be secretly monitored randomly to see if teachers are truely doing their jobs. If some teachers cared more, then this might be a better world. I also believe that there should also be blame on the parents. Some parents feel sorry for their kids that they have to do so much homework, or just teach them no responsibility. I have seen this personally through working at Subway. There have been so many people that never show up on time, try and do the least they can and still get paid the same as everyone else, and if they don't they get mad. Furthermore the lack of responsibility that people have with their kids is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!! There was a worker that no longer works there that was going to work a 6-7 hour shift while her kids were in the car outside!!!!! What does that teach the kids. NOTHING!!!! This person was VERY Irresponsible. As far as I'm concerned she shouldn't even be allowed to keep her kids. Who knows what she does when no one is around. These kids are going to grow up and probably reproduce and what is this going to show their kids. I believe that when education and work is concerned, the country is on a steep slippery slope.
Aaron is right that the fingers should be pointed at teachers the school board, and the state government, because they are the ones that are preparing us. The teachers are the ones that do the teaching not the students
